From Mark McConnell, Department Chair:

It is my pleasure to announce the winner of this year's Harper Fellowship Award. Jim Harper was a valued member of the physics department for many years and the Harper fellowship was established in his name to recognize graduate students who exemplify overall academic merit and achievement. The first and second year graduate students who most excel in all areas of classwork, research/teaching performance, and comprehensive exam performance receive the award. For her exceptional overall performance last year as a first year graduate student, the Harper fellowship in the amount of $3000 is awarded to Shujie Li. Congratulations to Shujie!

Going forward, there will be two awards, each in the amount of $3000, awarded at the end of the spring semester to the first and second year graduate student with the best overall performance. I look forward to watching the progress of our graduate students in this academic year and announcing the next awards this spring!
