Kai Germaschewski

Associate Professor, Department of Physics
Associate Professor, Space Science Center (EOS)

Kai Germaschewski received his Ph.D. in Computational Plasma Physics from the University of Düsseldorf, Germany in 2001. His main area of expertise is computational plasma physics. He works on MHD / extended MHD and multi-fluid models, as well as high-performance particle-in-cell simulations using a kinetic description of plasmas.

He is interested in magnetic reconnection, a near ubiquitous process in plasmas that allows to convert energy stored in magnetic fields to be released and converted into kinetic and thermal energy. He works on applications both relevant to laboratory plasma physics and magnetospheric physics.
